1991- Twenty One - Bobby    IMDB

Katie (Patsy Kensit) is a free spirit, a woman who knows her own mind. Follow her as she reflects on her life and loves including her handsome enigmatic boyfriend who has a secret he hides from everyone. In this early role Rufus plays Bobby whose heroin addiction swallows the existence of every one around him and eventually claims his life.

1993 - Dirty Weekend - Tim   IMDB

Bella (Lia Williams) has been shoved around by every man she meets. When she relocates to the sea shore, a series of frightening phone calls push her even closer to the edge. Rufus plays Tim, Bella’s caller and peeping Tom. Especially good in the park scene in this unusual role, it’s a chance to see another side of Rufus that will scare you to death.

1994 - A Man of No Importance - Robbie Fay   IMDB

Alfie has a secret—one he dare not share in 1960’s Dublin. Not even with his 'own boy' Robbie Fay. Albert Finney stars with Rufus as a bus driver and conductor in this film of awakening, friendship and acceptance. Chocked full of wonderful British character actors, it’s not to be missed.

1995 - Victory - Martin Ricardo   IMDB

Martin Ricardo (Rufus) plays personal secretary to Mr. Jones (Sam Neill) as they set off for the Dutch East Indies to liberate Axel Heyst (Willem Dafoe) from his fortune. But Ricardo’s penchant for gambling, threats and murder soon turn toward infatuation with Heyst’s female companion—a fact Mr. Jones is willing to kill to prevent. Rufus’ psychotic turn as Ricardo is worth the trudge through this uneven film.

1995 - Carrington - Mark Gertler   IMDB

“The story of the relationship between painter Dora Carrington and author Lytton Strachey in a World War One England of cottages and countryside.” Carrington (Emma Thompson) embarks on her first sexual relationship with painter Mark Gertler (Rufus). First of many films where Rufus inexplicably does not get the girl.

1996 - Hamlet - Fortinbras   IMDB

The Prince of Demark gets the Hollywood treatment in this opulent picture directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, and nearly everyone else you can possibly think of. Rufus plays Fortinbras, the Norwegian Prince bent to conquer Denmark. The part is small and spare—nearly the only thing about this picture that actually is, but he brings a gravity to the role beyond his years. If you can make it through the 4 plus hours his crowning near the end is truly regal. He may not choose to play them but his kings are always such that you might well imagine dying for them.

1998 - The Woodlanders - Giles Winterbourne   IMDB

Giles Winterbourne (Rufus) has been promised to Grace Melbury (Emily Woof) since they were children, but when Grace returns from boarding school, forester Giles is no longer good enough. In typical 19th century Thomas Hardy fashion, things go from bad to worse. With Grace’s marriage to the philandering town doctor the story culminates in a tear-jerking finish. Rufus spends a great deal of the film looking wounded and just out of reach of happiness.

1998 - The Honest Courtesan/Dangerous Beauty - Marco Venier   IMDB

The story of courtesan Veronica Franco (Catherine McCormack) loosely based on her own letters. Boy meets girl. Girl comes from the wrong kind of family. Boy loses girl. Girl becomes a courtesan because the alternative is unthinkable. Boy defends girl from the inquisition. A beautifully drawn romantic melodrama set in 16th century Venice. Rufus looks perfectly at home in the setting and is a delight to watch in this picturesque film. And for once Rufus gets the girl.

1998 - Dark City - John Murdoch   IMDB

Imagine waking up to discover you have brutally murdered a prostitute and have no idea who you are or where you’ve come from. Each night at midnight unknown to its inhabitants, the city reconfigures itself to change the lives of a chosen few. One night something goes terribly wrong and one of the chosen, John Murdock, suddenly comes face to face with the machinations behind the thin veil of reality. This complex sci-fi tale unspools the story of Murdock as he struggles to recover his identity and his life. A great opportunity to see Rufus star in a major Hollywood picture, the story twists and curves with more complexity than the characterizations. This is a must see for any Rufus fan and a favorite of many. (Also starring Kiefer Sutherland, Ian Richardson, Jennifer Connolly and William Hurt)

1998 - At Sachem Farm/Higher Love/Uncorked - Ross   IMDB

If nothing you do succeeds perhaps you’re doing the wrong thing is the theme of this charming little film about family, love and finding yourself. Everything Ross has ever done in his life has been a failure from his job as a stock broker to his import furniture business. Now he has a surefire hit. He will sell his Uncle’s (Nigel Hawthorne) wine collection and buy a manganese mine. But like everything in his life except his music the plan begins to unravel almost as soon as it’s hatched. This is loveable Rufus at his best, sweet, kind and oh so gifted at romantic comedy. If your taste leans toward quirky romance, give this one a try. (Also starring Minnie Driver)

1999 - Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence/The Very Thought of You - Frank   IMDB

Three men, one woman, one romantic comedy. Daniel (Tom Hollander) is in the music business. On a transatlantic flight he encounters Martha (Monica Potter) who has bought the first one-way ticket she can afford to London to escape her unhappy life. Ten hours and some bad airline food later Daniel is in love. Enter Frank (Rufus) a child actor who has been unemployed for years and has a powerful rivalry with Daniel. After a game of whose life is worse, Martha leaves Frank in a museum (apparently his is if even Martha dumps him). Enter Laurence (Joseph Fiennes) who turns out to be the love of Martha’s life. If predictable romantic comedy is your cup of tea, this will be a favorite.

1999 - Illuminata - Dominique   IMDB

Trivial, shallow, silly, hopelessly self involved cad. This is Dominque (Rufus), the lead actor in a turn of the 20th century troupe of thespians helmed by Tuccio (John Tuturro who also wrote and directed) and his partner Rachael (Katherine Borowitz). This picture is peopled with one colorful cameo after another as the troupe works to produce Tuccio’s masterwork of love. The small portion of the final scene of the play, Illuminata, is not to be missed. Rufus gives one of the most heartfelt and arresting performances of his career. (Also starring Ben Gazzara, Beverly D’Angelo, Susan Sarandon, Christopher Walken, and Aida Turturro)

1999 - In a Savage Land - Mick Carpenter   IMDB

Evelyn (Maya Stange) wants to be taken seriously in her research as an anthropologist. On an island off Papua New Guinea before World War II, she and her husband (Martin Donovan) struggle over who will offer published significance and what approach will be best to achieve their end. Mick Carpenter (Rufus) an American pearl trader, soon enters their lives and with the outbreak of the war becomes the catalyst that helps Evelyn realize her dreams. The type of character piece where Rufus really excels. Favorite scene - Begin the Beguine.

2000 - Bless the Child - Eric Stark   IMDB

Being a minion of Satan clearly has its advantages. Rufus camps his way through the role of Eric Stark -wealthy cult leader and abductor of children for purposes only his master can fathom. If you like this type of thing, this vehicle starring Kim Basinger as the beleaguered aunt and Jimmy Smits as the spiritual cop serves up the battle between good and evil as well as the next. This one even offers a small role by Christian Ricci. Rufus plays Stark with charm and appeal which is what I’d want if I were being tempted. Even the evil seems somehow appealing in his adept hands.

2001 - A Knight's Tale - Count Adhemar of Anjou    IMDB

Rock music, fashion victims and knighthood all blend together in this curious tale of poor boy makes good. Arrogant Count Adhemar (Rufus) has other plans for the fair Jocelyn and her budding romance but ultimately discovers his fate at the end of a lance. (Also starring Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany, Shannyn Sossamon and James Purefoy)

2002 - Extreme Ops - Ian   IMDB

Rufus shepherds a group of snowboard junkies and one over-hyped downhill gold medalist as the director of an extreme sports commercial filmed in the picturesque Alps. Rupert Graves plays his weasely producer more interested in cash than the welfare of his cast and crew.  Managing the sketchy role with wit and aplomb, Rufus looks made for the slopes in black ski wear and bright jacket. If you’re up for 90 minutes of beautiful scenery and very little else, this one is a don’t miss. One of our guilty pleasures.

2003 - Victoria Station - The Cabbie   IMDB

A Harold Pinter piece in which Rufus plays a London cab driver lost not only in space but in time. The dispatcher sends him to pick up a well-paying fare at Victoria Station, but the cabbie stays parked near Crystal Palace Park, where he claims he can see the actual palace which burned in the Great Fire of London in 1936. In the back seat is a sleeping women with whom he believes he has fallen in love. A real treat for Rufus who would like his looks to play less of a part in his roles, we never actually see his face until the very last frames.

2005 - The Legend of Zorro - Armand   Official Website   IMDB

Zorro (Antonio Bandaras) battles the evil Armand (Rufus), French Count, vintner, effete aristocrat, wife stealer and soap baron extraordinaire. Rufus looks absolutely grand in his expertly tailored Hollywood duds and shoes that fit him to a tee. Each is more elegant than the last. He dances divinely, rides elegantly and fights masterfully. Even Elena (Catherine Zeta Jones) gazes upon him adoringly until she discovers he is out to take over the world. Best scene, Armand threatens McGivens with cutting out his tongue to feed to his dogs. Should have choked him when you had the chance Rufus.

2005 - Tristan + Isolde - Lord Marke  Official Website   IMDB

A blend of the ancient legend of Tristan + Isolde and more modern Arthurian Legend this simple character driven film with its gorgeous cinematography and gifted cast is completely stolen by Rufus as Lord Marke. If you don’t come away wondering what Isolde (Sophia Myles) saw in Tristan (James Franco) other than that the script told her so you weren’t paying attention. For fans of director Ridley Scott (he produced) you can see his hand all over this one. Don’t miss it.

2006 - The Illusionist - Crown Prince Leopold   Official Website   IMDB

Eisenheim (Edward Norton) the magician wants nothing more than to free his love Sophie (Jessica Biel) from Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus). The Crown Prince wants to free his country from darkness and superstition. When Sophie turns up dead, Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti) must discover her killer. Lovely cinematography and tone highlight this turn of the 20th Century piece. Rufus' role as the Crown Prince is unique and colorful. Favorite scene involves a gun and fracture from reality. Any more would be a spoiler.

2006 - Paris, je t'aime (segment 'Père-Lachaise') - William    IMDB

Wes Craven directs this segment in the multipart feature where honeymooner Frances (Emily Mortimer) has second thoughts about her fiancé William (Rufus) until Oscar Wilde (Alexander Payne) appears by his tomb to remind the soon to be husband of the way to a woman’s heart. This short has all of the charm of a full length film and the wit of Oscar Wilde as Rufus appears to make gentle fun of his somewhat dark and brooding reputation.

2006 - The Holiday - Jasper Bloom   Official Website    IMDB

Rufus plays a tiny in role in a film in which we would have rather seen Iris' and Jasper's story than the story we ended up getting. If you're viewing for Rufus, don't blink or you'll miss him. He's exactly what you'd like him to be, a lovable affable bloke who doesn't understand what he's doing to one of the women he loves. There is never any mystery why Iris is madly in love with himwe were too. The mystery is why she doesn't understand sooner it's not Jasper that's the problem, but her. Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Jack Black star.

2007 - Amazing Grace - Thomas Clarkson    Official Website    IMDB

William Wilberforce (Ioan Gruffudd) pursues parliament to abolish slavery in 19th century England in this Michael Apted helmed feature. Thomas Clarkson (Rufus) is the man who prods him and William Pitt (Benedict Cumberbatch) is the man who aides him. Rufus provides a much needed combination of eccentric humor and dogged idealism to this film that deviates toward dower a great deal of the time. A small role, it is one of Rufus most gifted performances. (Also starring Michael Gambon, Ciaran Hinds, Albert Finney, Youssou N'Dour and Ramola Garai)

2008 - Downloading Nancy Albert Stockwell    IMDB

Downloading Nancy follows the fate of an unhappy housewife who instead of committing suicide, meets a man over the internet and hires him to kill her. Things become complicated when the two unexpectedly fall in love. It is rumored that Rufus will play the husband. (Maria Bello and Jason Patric co-star)

2008 - Vinyan - Paul   IMDB

A European couple make a desperate bid to find their lost child who disappeared after the Tsunami that hit Thailand. First journeying to the hazardous waters of the pirate patrolled Thai/Burmese coast, they eventually find themselves in the jungle where they must confront the ultimate danger ... In Thai, Vinyan is a spirit, a lost soul that torments the living.
